I have an easier way for you to find the information you need to succeed as a Business Analyst.
I have created a new website that I think makes it really easy for you to find articles, templates, papers, videos, examples, and more on topics such as writing use cases, running teleseminars, developing your career, and anything else I can think of that will help you succeed as a BA.
Here it is: http://www.ResourcesForBusinessAnalysts.com
It is a membership site, so I can moderate and keep the quality high. There is no charge for membership and I welcome everyone who is looking for information on being a successful Business Analyst.
I am developing the site as a Agile project, and you are my stakeholders. That means that the site is not complete, and I have many many places for you to give me feedback on what you want. Tell me what information I should put in my site next. What do you need today? Let me know so I can put that content into the site for you.
Here is my goal. Imagine you are at work today and you need a template for a use case. You login to http://www.ResourcesForBusinessAnalysts.com, go to the Document Area, select Use Case, and there you find the template you need and a paper with tips for writing better use cases.
Maybe you are looking for the teleseminar we ran last night on Using Teleseminars with Distributed Teams. You login to http://www.ResourcesForBusinessAnalysts.com, go to the Communicate Area, select Teleseminars, and there you find the recording along with my notes in PDF.
I really want this site to be useful for you. I can only do that if you tell me what will make it useful for you.
So go on over to http://www.ResourcesForBusinessAnalysts.com, become a member, browse around, and tell me what you think.
I look forward to your feedback, and your success using my new site.
Best regards -

What are your thoughts about SCRUM methodology for project? I believe that it is another method to progress through the project and related phases, however, it appears that it could be a component of Agile projects. I have noticed in my job search that hiring managers/recruiters are asking for certified SCRUM masters. What are your thoughts about this? In my opinion, SCRUM is another way to help project team members understand their roles and responsibilities in the project but make this a requirement of a job is not being open to the work experiences of seasoned BAs. Of course companies can ask for whatever they want but I see too often that they really don’t understand PM or BA responsibilities when they ask for certain things.
Hi Angel -
Great to hear from you again. I hope you had some nice times over this holiday season.
I think SCRUM can be very useful in many situations. It focuses attention on the people aspects of a project, which are often overlooked.
I have received a number of questions about SCRUM and Agile recently, so I have scheduled a teleseminar for January 6, 2010 at 5pm Eastern time on the topic of The Role of the BA on an Agile or SCRUM team. I will have a post on the blog http://www.writingusecases.com on Dec. 29 (Tuesday) with more information on that teleseminar.
