Business Analyst Mentoring

Are you looking for:

  • Guidance in planning your BA work?
  • A review of project artifacts with suggestions for improvement?
  • Tips on how to approach a specific task?
  • Personalized instruction?
  • Other suggestions from a senior Business Analyst?

If the answer is yes, then perhaps you would like to be mentored.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring has its roots in the ancient practice of apprenticeship, where a student completed work under the eye of a master craftsman who was there to provide knowledge, guidance, and correction. Mentoring is where an experienced Business Analyst (the mentor) works one-on-one with another Business Analylst (the mentee) for the purpose of helping the mentee quickly improve their Business Analyst skills.

A successful mentoring program has the following characteristics:

  • Regular meetings
  • Specific overall objectives
  • Assigned tasks
  • Deadlines

Why Geri?

With over 25 years experience in the software industry, I have been training and mentoring Business Analysts since 1996 in corporations throughout the US. My book "Applying Use Cases: A Practical Guide" is used by Business Analysts all over the world to learn the art and craft of working as a Business Analyst on a software project.

How does it work?

We will work together in a conference call, using either telephone or Skype. I have a combination of tools available, including a call recording service, Skype (recent versions allow desktop sharing), email, DropBox, online meeting scheduler, and payment processor.

What is Restart?

Restart is a profiling tool and a system developed by Jonathan Chase that identifies a person's subconscious strength. Your Restart profile type tells me the best approach for you personally to take for any task. This allows me to provide you better mentoring than just guessing what would work for you or asking you to do things the way I do. Along with Jonathan Chase, Jane Bregazzi, and David Heath, I am a founder of Restart Academy, a company founded to promote Jon's Restart System. You can find out about Restart at http://www.restartacademy.com.

See my BA Restart Profiles page on this site for more information on how Restart applies to Business Analysis, and to find out your Restart Profile type.

What does it cost?

The cost is $120 per one hour session. You and I will work together to plan what you need to do and how many sessions it will take to accomplish your goals. I suggest weekly meetings in order to keep you focussed on your goals. Some people do very well with twice a month. I have found that meeting less often is not very effective.

How do I get started?

Fill out the form to the right of this page and I will contact you more details. I have an online scheduling system we will use to set up meetings, and payments can be made through my payment processor (credit card or PayPal).
